Clothing – Children must be dressed comfortably & suitably for the weather since we will spend most of the time outdoors. Extra layers in cool weather, swimsuits/shorts/sandals in summer. Pants for horseback riding need only be comfortable, loose fitting, with no extra buttons, zippers, or bead work that will scratch the saddles. Rubber boots or a similar boot with ankle support & a ½”- 1 ½” heel are mandatory for riding & good for barn fun. ASTM approved riding helmets are mandatory. If you do not own one, we have a few available for use. Keep in mind the quantity & sizes are limited. Riding gloves are recommended. Please make sure everything is labeled with your child’s name.
Headgear – Proper ASTM approved riding helmets are mandatory & the law. Helmets are available at the ranch but the sizes & quantity are limited. Bring your own helmet if you can. Please make sure it is clearly labeled with child’s name. Girls with long hair are best to put it back in a low braid or pony tail so as not to obstruct vision or get in the way.
Lunch – Children staying the full day must bring a suitable lunch. Extra drinks & snacks are highly recommended for all campers, as horses are hard work & hunger is imminent. Cold drinks, frozen treats and other snacks are available for sale at the Tuck Shop. Please pack extra money if you wish for your child to purchase such items.
Drop-off & Pick-up – Camp starts at 9AM sharp in the main stable. Campers may arrive up to15 minutes early if they choose, any earlier must be pre-arranged. Pick-up for ½ day camp is at 12NOON & for full day at 4PM. Prompt pick-up is highly encouraged, as we have other scheduled activities & staff cannot stay behind to “babysit”.. If you plan for an early pick-up, please inform ranch staff so we can have your child ready. West Winds Ranch staff will not for any reason, let a camper leave with someone who has not been previously approved by parents/caregivers and/or are named on the camp registration forms.
Miscellaneous – No jewelery/valuables. Extra sunscreen. Hats. Label everything.
