The small group size, max. 12 per week, and high camper to counselor ratio, 3:1, provides for a maximum amount of horse time with focused instruction for each young equine enthusiast. The use of the whole farm creates opportunities to explore other aspects of rural life, plenty of exercise, creativity, team work skills & ground breaking memorable experiences that your child will cherish forever! Each Friday the young group prepares for their end of the week performance for their audience of parents, grandparents, caregivers & other interested folks! Summer Camp Camp at West Winds Ranch centers around nurturing the children’s love for animals & nature while enjoying the outdoor Sounds philosophical, yes, but it’s a whole lotta fun when you’re in it hands on & proactive!! The primary theme is horses & equestrian sports. Children learn to care for, handle, groom, tack up & ride We ride, drive and generally muck about with our trusty steeds! Added activities to include (with parental consent) swimming, archery/mounted archery, roping, skijoring and air rifle shooting as well as sustainable/low environmental impact farming/gardening practices. Safety is preached & practiced FUN is a consequence!! All of the animals at the ranch share in the daily camp routine. The children love helping with the lambs, collecting eggs, feeding the animals, etc.. We often take nature walks/talks around & about the property. Discussions about animal and land stewardship, sustainable farming practices, reforestation, wetlands, biodiversity, are turned over in many ways. We literally “stop to smell the roses” Everyone’s input is cherished, it is amazing how much children listen & retain on our talk/walks! Overnight Camp!! Our clubhouse is in the making! It will have all the amenities of home. For those wanting to really get in touch with farm life. Campers will aid in the everyday running of the ranch, including many extra hours with the equines & other animals. Loads of fun & learning! Nutritious meals & snacks included. Spending money recommended as w will make trips into the village of Westport to buy extra goodies & the like.
Thursday Night Campouts For those attending the full day/full week camps. Campers will stay the whole day help with AM/PM chores, pack up their gear & enjoy a cowboy campout under the stars or in our authentic cowboy style chuck wagon! Meals included.
Camp Week Exclusive over 10 yrs old, those staying the full week overnight. It will be a special week; outings to campout with horses at other locations, a local horse show, trips to other stables & tack shops, etc…

Our children’s camps are developed by Alison Downing, combining her over 20 years experience as an avid rider, owner, trainer & instructor with personal camp memories & research of other current popular camp programs. Alison also draws upon her Queen’s University Studies & years of working with children of all ages. The result is a unique blend of riding themes, horsemanship skills, farming practices & individual life strategies.
